Advanced Thermochemical Research Laboratory

Breadcrumb

The Advanced Thermochemical Research team is focused on developing new renewable energy production pathways for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) that can be used for a number of applications, such as clean burning transportation fuels or fuel cell applications. UC Riverside researchers have patented a process called a Steam Hydrogasification Reaction (SHR), which uses biomass to produce alternative fuels or electricity in a manner that improves upon the efficiency of past processes. In 2014, the team completed a process demonstration unit that proved the process is viable at scale, paving the way for the research that will make RNG production from local waste resources in a cost effective, environmentally friendly manner a reality.
