For over 20 years, Dr. Kanok Boriboonsomsin has worked on advancing research in sustainable transportation, energy and emissions modeling, and intelligent transportation systems. Now, his voice will help drive change on a national level as he joins the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Mobile Sources Technical Review Subcommittee (MSTRS).
The MSTRS is a key advisory group for the EPA, offering expert recommendations on reducing air pollution from mobile sources, improving air quality, and addressing public health concerns. Dr. Boriboonsomsin’s appointment to this select group highlights his long-standing contributions and leadership in these areas.
Throughout his career, Dr. Boriboonsomsin has focused on understanding how transportation systems affect the environment and finding ways to reduce those impacts. His work spans local, regional, and national transportation systems, and he’s developed innovative strategies to address environmental challenges associated with road transportation. His research has earned recognition and support from federal, state, and local agencies, as well as industry collaborators.
Beyond his research, Dr. Boriboonsomsin serves in several prominent leadership roles. In addition to being CE-CERT’s Associate Director of Finance & Administration, he is the Vice Chair of the Environmental Justice and Goods Movement Subcommittee under the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and an active member of several other professional organizations, including IEEE and SAE International. These roles have helped him build partnerships and push forward innovative approaches to sustainable transportation.
As part of MSTRS, Dr. Boriboonsomsin will apply his expertise to help shape national policies aimed at reducing vehicle emissions and improving air quality. His appointment is an opportunity to bring scientific contributions from CE-CERT’s research to the forefront of policy discussions that impact sustainability nationwide.
