CE-CERT’s Ford Motor Company Chair in Environmental Engineering,  Charles E. Wyman was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering on February 9th, 2022, for his distinguished advances in transforming lignocellulosic feedstocks to low-carbon-footprint fuels and chemicals. The election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is the leading engineering programs aimed at meeting national needs, encourages education and research, and recognizes the superior achievements of engineers. National Academy of Engineering honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

Dr. Charles E. Wyman continues his research at CE-CERT, heading the Aqueous Biomass Processing Laboratory, focusing on understanding the fundamentals of and developing novel technologies for conversion of cellulosic biomass into sustainable fuels and chemicals at moderate temperatures in water rich environments.
