Title: Driving Heterogeneity in Traffic Flow Theory: An Action-Based Framework for Identification, Modelling, and Simulation

Abstract: In this presentation, I will introduce my PhD research on understanding driving heterogeneity from an action-based perspective. I will present a framework for identifying interpretable driving patterns from trajectory data, examining how these patterns vary across drivers and traffic conditions, and incorporating this heterogeneity into traffic flow modelling and simulation. The talk will also discuss how connecting microscopic driving actions with macroscopic traffic phenomena can contribute to more realistic and interpretable traffic models.

Bio: Xue Yao is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Transport & Planning at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Netherlands. She is currently a visiting researcher at CITRIS, UC Berkeley. She received her PhD degree from TU Delft, focusing on understanding and modelling driving heterogeneity in traffic flow. Her broader research interests include AI-driven traffic flow modelling, cooperative decision-making in mixed traffic, and multimodal transportation management.
