Science in Service to the Public

The CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellowship provides year of public service and government leadership training for scientists and engineers — grow your career while making a difference in California's policy arena. Read more stories and profiles of past Fellows at the CCST Fellows blog, or follow updates from the Fellowship program on FacebookTwitter, or LinkedIn.

To be eligible for the Fellowship, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • A PhD or equivalent level degree OR
  • An MS degree in an engineering discipline, plus at least three years post-degree experience; AND
  • U.S. citizenship OR Suitable immigration status for non-residents.

Examples of PhD equivalent degrees include, but are not limited to: ScD, MD, DVM, DO, DDS, EdD.

Areas of specialty are diverse, including but not limited to:

  • Energy and Environment
  • Human Services
  • Education
  • Healthcare


2017-2018 Fellowship Timeline

   December 1, 2016 Application period begins
   February 28, 2017 Application period closes at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time
   Mid April, 2017 Notification sent to applicants for interviews
   Late May/early June, 2017 Finalists' Interviews held
   June, 2017 Fellows Selected
   November 1, 2017 Fellows' training begins in Sacramento
   December 2017 Fellows assigned to host offices
   October 31, 2018 Fellowship ends
