CE-CERT Students Showcase Electric Vehicles at UCR's Earth Day Celebration

June 2, 2017

Earth Day ImageAs a part of UC Riverside’s Earth Day Celebration on April 22, 2017, CE-CERT Director Dr. Matthew Barth, researcher Dr. Jill Luo, and students Fei Ye and Chao Wang showcased three electric vehicles (EVs), along with research posters that addressed subjects such as the UCR New Grid, estimating energy and mobility benefits from an eco-approach/departure system for electric vehicles, and the development and evaluation of intelligent energy management strategies for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

The researchers also fielded a lot of questions about the costs associated with EV ownership, their driving ranges, and how spent batteries are recycled.

According to Dr. Jill Luo, the event was “very successful in reaching out to professors, students, and other visitors.” She added, “I think that showing the visitors how clean and quiet the EVs are was the best part of the event.”
