What is the STEP Conference?

This annual conference is a partnership between Bourns and the Center for Environmental Research and Technology with the goal of fostering interest in and excitement about careers in STEM fields for high school students. Each year, over 300 students from the Riverside area participate in this innovative alternative to the typical science fair, exploring hands-on research in a real working engineering laboratory.

Why is STEM Education Important?

Careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are in high demand. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that, during the period 2010–2020, employment in S&E occupations will grow by 18.7%, compared to 14.3% for all occupations (source:
