Where: Center for Environmental Research & Technology

Freight will have an expanding role in shaping the economy, environment, and communities in the Inland Empire and greater Southern California region. Freight transportation is estimated to grow by 80 percent between 1995 and 2020 according to the Southern California Association of Governments with the Federal Highway Administration forecasting even higher growth rates. The region is also seeing an influx of large footprint warehouses and increased truck traffic, which are generating pushback and concern from residents.

Register now to join local, regional, and state leaders and practitioners from industry, government, academia, and environmental organizations to dig deeper into the pivotal challenges facing the region in the context of a rapidly growing population, expanding freight industry, and mounting environmental and public health concerns. Participants will hear from and engage with leaders in the field who will discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities related to jobs and the economy; environmental and public health; urban form and community design; and traffic impacts.

This forum is brought to you by the National Center for Sustainable Transportation and the Center for Environmental Research & Technology at the University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside), in partnership with the Center for Sustainable Suburban Development at UC Riverside; Institute of Transportation at University of California, Davis; California Department of Transportation (Caltrans); and Southern California Association of Governments. The event organizers would like to specifically thank Caltrans for sponsorship of this event.
