The program for the Study of Extremely Low Emission Vehicles (SELEV), in cooperation with the U.S. EPA, state agencies, and auto and oil companies, is examining the impacts that a new generation of conventional and alternative-fuel vehicles will have on air quality.
Vehicle Activity Analysis
We are studying the actual operations of vehicles and the makeup of the in-use fleet to understand when and where pollutants are produced. The impacts on local and regional air quality are profound.
Emissions Analysis
We have developed new techniques for measuring vehicle emissions in "real world" driving at super low levels. We must understand how the quantity and nature of those emissions changes with driving patterns and the age of the vehicle.
Air Quality Results
As vehicle emissions are reduced to very low levels, what will happen to air quality at the local and regional scales? What are the impacts from advanced gasoline-fueled vehicles? How do they compare with hybrids, electrics, and other technologies on the horizon?
