CE-CERT's Center of Excellence in Alternative Transportation Fuel Research springs from our extensive experience with the characterization of environmental impacts of reformulated and alternative fuels and measurement of the emissions from current and future vehicles to understand their environmental effects. CE-CERT's patchwork fuelsEmissions and Fuels Research Group has a core of leading researchers with extensive experience in alternative transportation fuels production and utilization, vehicle emissions, fuel effects, catalysts, vehicle materials, engine durability and drivability.

CE-CERT has also played a leading role in research being conducted by the California Air Resources Board in conjunction with the implementation of the Low Carbon Standard (LCFS) and in the development of earlier diesel and gasoline regulations for California.

CE-CERT also has an associated Sustainable Energy Systems Research group that specializes in the production of alternative transportation fuels, with experts in the areas of cellulosic biochemical production and hydrogasification. The Center of Excellence in Alternative Transportation Fuels Research will build on CE-CERT’s expertise, facilities and on-going research to address critical questions in the advancement and development of alternative fuels for transportation applications.
