UC Riverside, in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), will be hosting a training on the applications of NASA satellite data to air quality management from Tuesday, September 19, 2017 to Thursday, September 21, 2017.

NASA satellite data has wide applications across the field of air quality management, including such items as air quality forecasting, fire and smoke detection, and PM2.5 monitoring. The Applied Remote Sensing Training (ARSET) will use a mixture of lectures and hands-on exercises to introduce concepts such as aerosol and trace gas data from MODIS, MISR, OMI, and VIIRS, and the associated online tools for visualizing and acquiring data. The training will conclude with a case study that will incorporate all data portals, visualization tools, and relevant data in the tracking of an air quality event of the student’s choice.
